A downloadable faith

You live in a world that has fallen into darkness. It exists in agony, awaiting the return of a God that no longer answers its calls. Most have lost faith - but not you, not you.

You make your way through the barren landscape, hoping to help those in need. You have a list of settlements, shrunken and ailing, that could use your aid. Though most settlements have lost all belief in a deity, they are desperate for a witch or a healer and will welcome you for as long as you wish to stay.

And so you travel. You help where you can. You study your craft. You do what you must do. And above all, you pray, and you pray, and you pray.

The Faithful Witch is a solo journaling TTRPG that uses a ten-sided die and a deck of standard playing cards or tarot cards. It is about doing good for a post-apocalyptic world while faithfully serving an absent God. It was made for the Village Witch Jam.

UPDATE 19/05/25: The Faithful Witch has been updated to include a gameplay instructions breakdown for clarity and an example journal entry. A plain text version of the game has been added as well.

Content Warnings: This game deals with various religious themes, including religious trauma. It also deals with themes surrounding physical and mental illness, injury, natural disasters, and death.

Just picked this up in a charity bundle and I really love the idea - I haven't played a solo journaling game before, but I've always wanted to.

I feel like the instructions would probably make more sense if I had played Village Witch first, but I don't own that one. I might just be dense, but everything after character and world creation is confusing and I'm not actually sure what I'm supposed to do, or in what order I'm supposed to do them.

I do really love the theme and vibes of this game, so I'm happy to make rules up myself to fill in the gaps in my understanding. The descriptions of the seasons are great, and so are the card and dice tables. I just might not be able to play this game "as intended" since I'm a clueless newcomer to the genre.

Hi, thank you so much for the feedback! I actually pretty much just directly copied the original Village Witch’s instructions and structure when making this. With that being said, I can see where you’re coming from! As such, I’ve updated the game document to include a gameplay instructions breakdown. (But of course, you’re welcome to play with invented rules too!)

Thank you so much for playing the game despite its lack of clarity! I’m glad you enjoyed the vibes and theme and I hope the updated document makes things clearer!

Thank you, the updated document is so much easier for me to understand! What a beautiful game. I'm going to be playing it a lot, I think!

I'm another one who picked this up in the Palestinian Relief Bundle and it's absolutely lovely. I've played two witches, one more benevolent than the other, and the amount of prompts made sure that both stories had no repeats. A perfect way to spend a rainy day

what a beautiful work this is!~ i echo the comment about this being added to the Palestinian Relief Bundle; this is hit all the boxes for what i've been searching for in a solo TTRPG experience. my favourite thing about this game is how inspiring it can be, and not just creatively. thanks  <3
